NGC 5363/5364 Galaxies in Virgo

NGC 5364 (left) shining at mag 10,4 is a grand design spiral galaxy located 55 million light-years away in the constellation Virgo.
It extends 113.000 light-years. It was discovered by William Herrschel in 1786.

NGC5363 (right) shining at mag 10,5 is a lenticular galaxy located 65 million light-years away. It was discovered by William Herrschel in 1784.
The galaxy is characterised by the presence of a small dust lane along its minor axis and a more complex one along its major axis.
The galaxy also has shells, which are evidence of a recent merger with another galaxy.
NGC 5363 and NGC 5364 lie at a projected distance of 14.5 arcminutes, forming a maybe interacting pair.

NGC 5360 (IC 958) at bottom left is a 13,7 mag lenticular galaxy at approx. 51 million light-years distance and shows a diameter of approx. 25.000 Lj.
